It has been insanely hot. I sweat all day (not really, but really). You melt until the point where it becomes almost impossible to think. And then you have no choice but to find refuge under a guarda sol. Multiple showers a day are common. Sunblock is essential, especially for the paler types.

We took the metro from Saens Pena to Largo do Machado and had a quick bite to eat. Two older people who were sitting next to us had a basket of pao de queijo and kindly offered us some. We got to talking and it turns out that the man was a huge fan of Lady Gaga. Not only was he probably over 70 years old, he was also Brazilian. Not your average Lady Gaga fan. From there, we somehow got trapped into an enthusiastic one way conversation all in Portuguese about pop music artists like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Ke$ha & Beyonce. It just kept getting odder and odder so we said tchau! and made our way to the bus stop to catch a ride to Cristo Redentor. Got off the bus and caught the trem up to Corcovado where we were greeted by the beautiful statue!! It really was a great way to close our trip and overlook Rio and see the places that we have come to know and love from such an outstretched perspective.

For my 21st birthday, we went to Acadamia da Cachaça!! What better place to celebrate? The name is very fitting.
We ordered a caipirinha with fruta do conde, which had to be one of the strongest drinks I’ve tasted. The cachaça was out of control!!
